Jason probably did not switch timelines during the restaurant scene in Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 3. The apparent changes in the dinner conversation and the timing of his return to the Box can both be explained without requiring a second Dessen timeline.
Something unusual still appears to happen when Jason walks toward the restaurant bathroom, however. The hallway changes around him, he hears the Box, and for a moment he appears to see its door. That leaves open a different possibility: Jason may be starting to perceive another reality without physically entering it.
Episode 3 also gives us stronger clues about Blair’s identity, how people may act as anchors while navigating the Box, and whether Leighton Two is already transferring technology between alternate worlds.

Probably not. The restaurant scene initially looks like it could contain a subtle reality change, but the strongest evidence still supports one continuous timeline.
A viewer, @nancyjonesfrancis, noticed something that made me go back through the sequence.
At dinner, Teresa says they are not doing the branzino. Jason then gets up and walks toward the bathroom. The hallway begins behaving strangely, Jason hears the Box, and he appears to see the Box door in front of him.
When Jason returns to the table, the branzino comes up again.
That creates an interesting possibility: Jason could have walked away from one version of the dinner and returned to another.
But the conversation does not actually restart.
Another woman says they had been planning to order the branzino, and Teresa laughs before suggesting they may do something else. The dialogue still works as a continuation of the same conversation.
A literal timeline switch would also require two nearly identical versions of the evening to be occurring simultaneously. Another Jason, Daniela, Blair and Teresa would need to be sitting in the same restaurant, wearing the same clothes and having almost the same conversation at essentially the same moment.
That is certainly possible in Dark Matter, but Episode 3 does not currently require that explanation.
Does Jason Returning to the Box Prove There Are Two Timelines?
No. The timing of Jason’s return to the Box also works as one continuous sequence.
Jason and Daniela are shown lying in bed after the dinner scene, which can initially make the scene feel as though it takes place at night.
The lighting and sound suggest otherwise.
Sunlight is visible on Jason’s arm, and birds can be heard outside. It is the following morning.
Jason specifically tells Daniela that he needs to return to the Box that night to remove the advanced equipment he left behind.
Jason also works at the bar.
The simplest timeline is therefore:
Jason wakes up with Daniela in the morning, goes through his normal day and likely works his shift, then returns to the Box afterward.
When he reaches the school, it is dusk. Night insects can be heard, and by the time Jason reaches a phone and eventually returns home, it is fully dark.
That sequence removes one of the strongest apparent pieces of evidence for two separate Dessen timelines.
What Happened to Jason in the Restaurant Hallway?
This remains unresolved.
Even if Jason never physically changed realities, the restaurant hallway scene is difficult to dismiss as ordinary.
The environment appears to change around him. Jason hears the Box even though he is nowhere near it, and for a moment he appears to perceive the Box door directly in front of him.
One possibility is that Jason is beginning to perceive another reality while remaining inside his own.
Jason has experienced extensive travel through the Box, and Episode 3 could be introducing a consequence of repeated multiverse exposure that the series has not previously explained.
Instead of Jason moving between worlds, two versions of reality may briefly be overlapping from his perspective.

Blair recognizes her immediately.
But this Blair and this Daniela are not originally from the same world.
Blair came from Jason Two’s reality, while the Daniela currently living in the low-tech world came from Jason One’s original reality.

Jason has focused on Daniela.
Amanda focused on Blair.
Amanda and Ryan focused on Jason.
And Leighton Two has already managed to locate another Leighton.
If the Box allows people to act as navigational anchors, Leighton Two could potentially use himself as the target.
That would give him access to versions of Leighton shaped by countless different histories.
One world could have superior medicine while another has more advanced computing. Leighton Two could move between those worlds, learn what each version discovered and then introduce those ideas elsewhere.
If that is what happened with low-tech Leighton, Episode 3 may have already shown the first result.
Why Leighton’s Plan Could Become Dangerous
The opening conversation in Episode 3 may be warning us about exactly this problem.
Jason meets with former colleagues and asks whether humanity should pursue an invention capable of putting a person into quantum superposition.
Their discussion focuses on a recurring pattern in technological history: breakthroughs create benefits, but they also create consequences their inventors cannot fully control.
Ships expanded trade and exploration while also helping spread disease and enabling atrocities.
The same principle could apply to Leighton Two.
Giving another reality technology decades before it would have naturally developed does more than introduce a new machine.
It changes that world’s future.
Companies can rise earlier. Governments can gain capabilities they were never supposed to have yet. Wars can unfold differently. Diseases may disappear sooner, while people who would have lived may die and people who would have died may survive.
The further Leighton pushes a reality away from its original path, the harder the consequences become to predict.
That means Leighton Two does not need to become a conventional villain for his actions to become dangerous.
He can genuinely believe he is helping these worlds while changing them in ways he cannot control.
What Could These Theories Mean for Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 4?
The strongest evidence currently does not prove that two Dessen timelines were secretly shown during Episode 3.
The bigger mystery may be what Jason experienced in the restaurant hallway and whether Box travel has changed his ability to perceive alternate realities.
Blair’s scar also strongly connects her to the Blair from Season 1, while her arrival in the low-tech world gives us another reason to examine how travelers use people as anchors.
And Leighton Two may already be taking that rule much further.
