Spider-Man: Brand New Day has surpassed No Way Home to become the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie and Sony release ever.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially become the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie ever after crossing $2 billion at the worldwide box office.
Sony’s Sunday estimate places the film at $2.022 billion globally, passing Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $1.921 billion worldwide. That also makes Brand New Day the highest-grossing movie in Sony Pictures history.
The new record arrives during the film’s third weekend in theaters, when it added an estimated $70 million domestically and $118.7 million from international markets.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Passes No Way Home Worldwide
Before this weekend, No Way Home held both of the records that Brand New Day has now claimed.
The 2021 film finished its theatrical run with $1,921,426,073 worldwide, a total that included later rerelease earnings. Brand New Day has reached an estimated $2.022 billion after less than three full weeks in theaters, putting it roughly $100.6 million ahead of its predecessor.
The current worldwide ranking for the two films is:
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day — $2.022 billion
- Spider-Man: No Way Home — $1.921 billion
Because Sunday figures are studio estimates, the exact total may change when Monday’s actual box-office numbers are released. The record itself is secure because Brand New Day cleared the previous mark by more than $100 million.
Brand New Day Is Now Sony’s Biggest Movie Ever
Passing No Way Home gives Brand New Day a second record at the same time: it is now the highest-grossing film Sony has ever released.
That distinction matters because Sony’s largest worldwide hits have overwhelmingly come from the Spider-Man franchise. Far From Home became Sony’s first billion-dollar release in 2019, and No Way Home raised the studio record to $1.921 billion in 2021. Brand New Day has now pushed that ceiling past $2 billion.
Its international performance has been particularly important. The film has earned an estimated $1.236 billion outside North America, along with $785.8 million domestically. It had already passed No Way Home to become Sony’s highest-grossing international release before overtaking its full worldwide total.
Spider-Man Joins the $2 Billion Box-Office Club
Brand New Day is only the eighth movie in history to earn more than $2 billion worldwide, according to the Associated Press.
It also reached the benchmark faster than every movie except Avengers: Endgame. The movie opened on July 30 and crossed $2 billion during its third Sunday in theaters. Endgame remains the record holder after reaching the same milestone in 11 days.
The speed of the run separates Brand New Day from the previous Spider-Man record holder. No Way Home became a historic theatrical success while the box office was still recovering from the pandemic, but it never reached $2 billion. Brand New Day opened into a healthier global marketplace and converted that demand into one of the fastest box-office runs ever recorded.
How Brand New Day Reached $2 Billion So Quickly
The movie’s record was built on an enormous opening rather than a slow climb.
Brand New Day debuted with more than $900 million worldwide, the second-largest global opening in box-office history behind Avengers: Endgame. It then crossed $1 billion in six days and reached approximately $1.67 billion by the end of its second weekend.
Its third weekend added an estimated $188.7 million worldwide, including $70 million in the United States and Canada. The domestic result represents a decline of approximately 51.5% from its $144.5 million second weekend, but the film still remained comfortably in first place.
That combination of a record-level launch and three consecutive weekends at No. 1 allowed Brand New Day to pass No Way Home and $2 billion on the same day.
The movie has also helped drive the broader theatrical market. The 2026 domestic summer box office has now reached approximately $4.2 billion after crossing $4 billion for the first time since 2023.
How High Can Spider-Man: Brand New Day Go?
The next position on the all-time worldwide chart belongs to Avengers: Infinity War, which earned approximately $2.052 billion. Based on Sunday’s estimate, Brand New Day is only about $30 million away from passing it.
That should happen quickly, although the exact date will depend on Monday’s actuals and the film’s weekday performance. The larger question is how much further it can climb once the initial rush begins to slow.
For now, the confirmed achievement is already historic. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the highest-grossing Spider-Man movie, the biggest Sony release ever and only the eighth film to cross $2 billion worldwide.
