What Is Dark Matter Season 2 About?
Season 2 begins after Jason, Daniela and Charlie escaped their original reality and entered the Box together in search of a world where they could safely rebuild their lives. They appear to have found that world, but their stability does not last.
Jason becomes increasingly drawn back to the Box while Daniela struggles with what she can trust after everything the family experienced. Their story is no longer the only journey through the multiverse. Amanda and Ryan are together in the reality Amanda chose during Season 1, while Blair and Leighton remain caught in their own conflict over what the Box can be used to create.
Season 2 therefore expands the story beyond Jason’s original attempt to return home. Multiple characters now understand how to travel through alternate realities, and the consequences of those journeys are beginning to overlap.
Is There a Dark Matter Season 2 Trailer?
Yes. Apple released the official Dark Matter Season 2 trailer on July 25, 2026. The trailer follows Jason, Daniela and Charlie after their escape while also showing the continuing stories of Amanda, Ryan, Blair and Leighton.

Is Dark Matter Season 2 Based on the Book?
Dark Matter is based on Blake Crouch’s 2016 novel, but Season 2 moves the television series beyond the central story told in the original book.
The first season adapted the novel’s story of Jason Dessen being abducted by an alternate version of himself and using the Box to find his way back to Daniela and Charlie. The television adaptation’s first-season finale opened the story much further by leaving several characters traveling through realities and creating storylines that continue into Season 2.
What Happened in Dark Matter Season 1?
Jason eventually escaped the alternate reality where Jason2 had taken his place and reunited with Daniela and Charlie. But every decision Jason made while traveling through the Box created additional realities, producing multiple versions of Jason who had experienced different paths while trying to return to the same family.
Daniela ultimately chose the Jason viewers had followed throughout the season. Jason, Daniela and Charlie then entered the Box together to find a reality where the other Jasons could not follow them.
Amanda had already separated from Jason after finding a world where she believed she could build a new life. Ryan later arrived in that same reality, connecting two characters whose journeys through the Box had previously been separate.
Will There Be a Dark Matter Season 3?
Apple renewed Dark Matter for Season 2 after the first season, but a third season has not been announced as of September 2026.
Season 2 is scheduled to continue through October 30, so this page will be updated if Apple announces the future of the series.
